Terms of Service
Please review these Terms of Service before using CleverCash (Android App) or CleverSplit (PWA & Web).
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using CleverCash or CleverSplit, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the services.
2. Financial Record-Keeping Disclaimer
CleverCash and CleverSplit are ledger tracking and personal record-keeping tools only. We are NOT a bank, non-banking financial company (NBFC), money transmitter, or payment gateway.
- No Custody of Funds: CleverCash does not hold, transmit, receive, or intermediate real money.
- Direct Peer Payments: When you tap "Pay via UPI", the app generates a standardized deep-link URL (
upi://pay) directed to third-party payment applications installed on your device (such as Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or BHIM). We have no control over, nor liability for, transactions executed through external banking apps. - Settlement Records: Recording a settlement in CleverSplit is an informational ledger update between group members and does not represent an automated monetary transaction by our platform.
3. User Data & Device Backup Responsibility
Because CleverCash is an offline-first app storing your personal financial ledger in a local SQLite database on your device:
- You are solely responsible for creating and maintaining backups of your financial records using the built-in AES-256 encrypted Google Drive backup or export feature.
- If you uninstall the app, wipe your device, or lose your phone without having created an encrypted cloud backup, your local data cannot be recovered by CleverCash.
- You are responsible for remembering your backup encryption password. Because we use zero-knowledge local encryption, forgotten passphrases cannot be reset.
4. Acceptable Use of CleverSplit
When using CleverSplit for group expense management, you agree not to:
- Upload abusive, defamatory, or unlawful content or images.
- Spam or harass other members with repetitive settlement claims or notifications.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or tamper with Firestore databases or security rules.
5. Limitation of Liability & Warranty Disclaimer
The services are provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CleverCash and its developer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from lost financial data, mathematical discrepancies in peer splits, or external UPI payment failures.
